LIMESTONE HERB GARDENS

                                                            FALL NEWSLETTER 2008

Now that autumn is approaching, it is a good time to think about strengthening the immune system against hay fever, infections, allergies and colds.  Many of our herbs are being harvested for our tea blends, which are rich in antioxidants and fruit enzymes.  These herbs are truly a gift from Mother Nature and can minimize the harmful effects of stress and a compromised immune system.

Here are some of important herbs that should not be overlooked in preparing for the fall season:

  • Nettle (Urtica dioica) – a true powerhouse of nature with its plentiful supply of vitamins A and C, calcium, iron and other minerals.  It is used for hay fever, allergies and as a tonic for the whole body system.
  • Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) – a strong diuretic and loaded with potassium, it is a great tonic to maintain proper liver function to help in shedding toxins from the body.
  • Echinacea (Echinacea angustifolia) – supports the immune system to help fight infections, colds and viral attacks.
  • Elderberry (Sambucus nigra) – contains a powerful supply of vitamin C and fruit enzymes that strengthen the respiratory system, fight colds and mucous buildup.
  • Chamomile (Matricaria recutita) – serves as a relaxing anti-inflammatory and gentle sedative.  No wonder it was administered to Peter Rabbit!  It is used for anxiety, restlessness and insomnia.
  • Cleavers (Galium aperine) – a very good tonic for cleansing the lymphatic system.
We recommend the following Limestone Herb Garden teas for the fall.  Each container makes about 30 cups and to sweeten the tea add a little honey.   Of special interest for the fall are:
  • Throat Soother Tea – for a scratchy, sore throat
  • Under the Weather Tea – for a cold, runny nose, or fever
  • Immunitea – to support the immune system and ward off colds and viruses
  • Pure Echinacea Tea – for a gentle strengthening of the immune system
  • Pure Nettle Tea  - to help fight allergies and hay fever
  • Super Calcium and Mineral Tea – for your daily shot of calcium and minerals
  • High C Tea – for added vitamin C; also perfect for children
  • Tranquilitea – to calm the nervous system and perfect as a daytime drink
  • Sleep Tight Tea – for a good night’s rest
Regarding our HERB/SPICE BLENDS, we recommend the following best sellers to spice up your fall menus:
  • Tex-Mex Blend
  • Steak Rub
  • Onion Supreme
  • Spicy Mexicaly Rub
  • Dillicious
  • Hurry with the Curry
There are recipes and usage suggestions on each jar, but more recipes will be added to the “Recipe” section of our website on a continued basis. And perhaps it’s not too early to think ahead to the holiday season for our ever popular blend – the Mulled Cider/Wine mix for your apple cider or wine (we suggest a burgundy).  One jar of our mix makes a few gallons of Mulled Cider or Mulled Wine.  Our Simmering Spice (not for consumption) is a warm, fragrant and inviting blend of  cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, cloves and orange.  Just heat the contents of the jar in a saucepan and enjoy the aroma.  Last, a word about our BATH SEA SALTS. They are comforting additions to your bodily care and are perfect for:
  • …soothing a cold, a stuffy nose or aching muscles – Cold Care Bath Sea Salts
  • …energizing the system -  Revitalizing Bath Sea Salts
Our Lavender Bath Sea Salts and Rose Bath Sea Salts remain among the most popular bath salts.  Use the handy wooden scoop (included) to disperse the perfect amount into warm bath water. So, we wish you good health and happy spirits as you go through this fall season.  Enjoy our products and please let us know if you have any questions about a product or its usage.
